KAGE BUNSHIN NO JUTSU: Adrian Lim has always enjoyed Anime, starting with Dragon Ball Z in his younger years, and graduating to Bleach, Slam Dunk, and Naruto in his adolescence. Always resonating as a ‘weeb’, a non-Japanese person who might as well be one, since all they eat is ramen and they’ve been to Japan 2-3 times already, Adrian was content with his identity.
But 2019 had different plans for all the weebs. Michael B Jordan’s latest fashion collaboration with Coach, has brought Naruto out of weeb-land and into popular culture.
Naruto is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who seeks to gain recognition from his peers and also dreams of becoming the Hokage, the leader of his village. You may know of Naruto if you’ve seen people running with their arms flapping behind them, or weird teenagers wearing headbands with metal plates on them.
Jimmy Casino, The Native’s correspondent for all things cultural, interviewed Adrian and his mates from the S.M.A.S.H Anime/Manga community on their thoughts about the Coach Naruto collaboration.
“The fuck Michael B Jordan? Are you telling me that gangsters are going to be wearing Akatsuki robes now?”
“This is bullshit, I was never cool in highschool, and this just proves that black people can make anything cool”
“Michael B Jordan used genjutsu on the fashion community, GG lah”
