Asian Dad Patiently Listens To Adult Sons Investment Idea Before Explaining Why It’s Wrong

The weekly Sunday dinner had been going great for the Tham household, with Mum making Banh Xeo and his 18 year old sister home for once, David Tham (25) thought it might be time to flex his new investment idea with pops.

“Thinking of buying some shares aye Dad,” David begins smugly.

“Tesla shares”.

Dad had always said to have an investment mindset. Think long term. Yeah…that should do him proud.

David’s Dad – Seng Tham, who appears to be watching CCTV, immediately dismisses the idea.

“No son. Don’t buy Tesla share. US dollar unstable.”

“Ah, I thought you’d say that!” David rebuts. “…but you gotta understand that Tesla is the future Dad…It’s like…the iPhone of cars. They do everything. Solar…space… ”

Dad begins to nod his head.

Omg it’s working…He’s hooked…Hook, line and sinker baby!

“You can even diagnose your car without a mechanic, it’s all digital. Even Warren Buffet is bullish on it. His price target is $15,000!”

What an explanation. No, an analysis…a  fundamental analysis! Try argue with that Dad. It’s been a few years since uni mate and David’s learned a thing or two in the real world. And thank you for the investment advice Jordan Belfort.

Dad slows down his nodding before taking a sip of 2018 Shiraz.

“I still don’t trust boy. Many more better traditional car brand stable like Mercedes. More reliable son”

“Dad, they’re not agile like Tesla. They’re a bunch of dinosaurs, stuck in the petroleum age!”

“No. Audi do electric car, buy Audi share instead. Or I give you good recommendation – mineral company. Good mining company for lithium. Plenty of investment in green energy in future. Trust me.”

Later that night, David hops onto his investment app and takes out a $3,000 position in NASDAQ: TSLA, plus a $15 brokerage fee.

“Dad always says quick to listen, slow to talk. Well I’m listening to Warren Buffet.”
