Jumping into first year architecture, long time banana Damian Chow has found himself around a surprisingly cool group of Asian friends.
Shaped mostly by his high school upbringing, ‘Damo’, ‘yewed’ his way through his formative years as the loose Asian guy.
But after 18 years of fronting his identity to hang with the white group, the banana has discovered that he has a lot in common with people like himself.
“It’s like they understand me” said Damo.
“We all go to U-bar and talk about beautiful buildings instead of footy, it’s great”
“There’s even no expectation do a shoey. I fucking hate shoeys”
For the longest time, Chow saw many of the other Asian around his beach-centric school as nerds. He sought to distance himself by exaggerating his Australian accent and pretending to be part-Hawain.
Now, he’s faced with a crossroads: These creative Asians share the same goals as the banana and he really enjoys it…but does he enjoy it more than his white mates?
One of the boys from the uni group Leonard Tran says Damian may be the fence, but it’s only for now.
“Just wait till he meets some of the Viet LG’s from my area. Then we got him for life”.
More spice to come.
