With one hand on his phone playing Candy Crush, Tony Rui, 25, tells an outright lie to his girlfriend.
“Yeah I love Korean dramas babe. Let’s watch one.”
His girlfriend Sharon, is simply ecstatic that she has a partner in crime to watch Korean dramas with. Few men can say they’re man enough to watch a whole series of korean dramas. Especially one who’s comfortable enough to watch reruns of her favourite soppy high-school series Boys Over Flowers.
Sitting with the smiling couple, The Yap Native asks how they are able to watch so many K-dramas together. What is the secret to their success, when most guys tend to find the overdrawn love scenes of K-dramas too much?
“Its easy when you want to spend time with your great girlfriend”, Tony answers happily, holding Sharon’s hand. Sharon smiles widely.
Sharon gets up briefly to get something from the kitchen. Tony beckons The Yap Native reporter closer.
“I’m watching this shit to make her happy”, he says. His voice drops to a whisper. “She won’t have sex with me if she’s in not in a good mood. And she won’t be in a good mood if I don’t watch this shit”.
As Sharon walks back to the couch, Tony’s smile reappears on his face.
“Hey babe let’s put on another episode! Let me get the condoms, uh, oops, I meant the popcorn ready”.
