Nations Asian Grocery Store Owners Laugh At The Notion Of Contactless Payments

With many businesses aiming to slow the spread of germs given these uncertain times, big supermarkets like Woolworths are encouraging contactless payments from their customers.

This includes self-serve checkouts, or at the very least eftpos machines.

Bobby Sam and his wife Prao, won’t be doing either.

As the sole Asian Grocery store in the shopping centre, they collectively laugh at the notion.

“Haha, what’s that?” Says Bobby to the Building manager. “You mean like I don’t touch people?”

Behind closed doors, which we were able to gain access to after once saying Thank you in Thai to the Sams,, they have a very good reason why he won’t use eftpos.

“No cash, no good. Not tax, very good. Understand?”

As for self-serve checkouts, it’s just a slippery slope, they say.

“I shop at Woolworths for white people item like steak.”

“Then I scan steak as pasta and my blueberry as sweet potatoes, simple”

“Not going to happen in my shop, i know all tricks”

Hypothetically of course, adds Bobby, you could scan frozen king crab dumplings as Bok Choi, and Kim Chi as Onion Rings, which would be terrible business and require Bobby to chase after whoever did it.

“Not good for my health”

More spice to come.
